Book Lists

Renee’s picks

I absolutely LOVE reading books, which sometimes makes me wonder why I’m an engineer!  Below are some of my favorites that have changed my perspective of who God is and how I can stand firm in the midst of doubts, worldliness, and the all too often wandering of my own heart.

1. Desiring God
by John Piper
2. Spiritual Depression by Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones
3. The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer
4. A Call to Spiritual Reformation
by D.A. Carson
5. The Soul Winner
by Charles Spurgeon

6. The Valley of Vision, a collection of Puritan Poems
7. Worldliness by C.J. Mahaney
8. Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges
9. Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney
10. Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney

Miranda’s Picks

Though I’m not as much of a book reader, there are some good reads that I definitely recommend! Can’t ever let a chance to feed my soul with truth slip away. They’ve convicted, encouraged, and taught me much about my own sin, selfishness, and lack of faith. Read on!

1. Disciplines of a Godly Woman by Barbara Hughes
2. Today’s Gospel
by Walter Chantry
3. The Gospel According to Jesus by John MacArthur
4. Don’t Waste Your Life
by John Piper
5. War of Words
by Paul David Tripp
6. Divine Design
by John MacArthur
7. Did I Kiss Marriage Goodbye? by Carolyn McCulley

Esther’s Picks

For me, reading books (and the Bible) has allowed me not only to fill my mind with truth, but to constantly dwell on that truth.  What a blessing from God that there is an endless supply of resources to learn more about Him! My bookshelf is full of books, many of which are on my “to read” list, but here a few of my favorites:

1. Trusting God by Jerry Bridges
2. Humility by C.J. Mahaney
3. Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands by Paul David Tripp
4. A Gospel Primer for Christians by Milton Vincent
5. Morning and Evening by Charles Spurgeon
6. The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges
7. This Momentary Marriage by John Piper
8. Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur

(And I second all the ones that have been mentioned already!!! heheh)

Alvina’s Picks

I love the ones already posted! To not make this redundant I’ll just post ones that haven’t been posted already :)  Also, they are in no particular order.

  1. Basic Theology by Ryrie (be discerning w/some sections though)
  2. Lies Women Believe by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
  3. Let me be a Woman by Elisabeth Elliot
  4. Hard to Believe by John MacArthur
  5. Let the Nations be Glad by John Piper

Jenny’s Picks

I agree with Esther and third the choices mentioned above! I love reading missionary biographies, seeing how men and women of the faith devoted their lives to exalt Christ to the ends of the earth, so I included a couple of those as well. Here is a list of books that have nourished my soul and my walk with God:

  1. Shadow of the Almighty by Elisabeth Elliot
  2. George Muller: Man of Faith and Miracles by Basil Miller (or check out Autobiography of George Miller for the full version!)
  3. Attributes of God by Arthur W. Pink
  4. The Gospel & Personal Evangelism by Mark Dever
  5. The Lost Art of Disciple Making  by LeRoy Eims
  6. The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Burroughs
  7. Then Sings my Soul by Robert J. Morgan (this book is different in that it contains a collection of hymns with the stories behind them)
